BG Girls Golf take conference title!

Short but busy describes this week on the golf course. Tuesday the girls placed 3rd in the Marion County Tourney and Kayla shot a 77 at Eagle Pines.

I anticipated a bit of a let down 24 hours later when we played at Smock in a 3 way meet but not a total meltdown. A new school to our conference, Lapel HS and one we have never played before surprised us and defeated us by 8 strokes as we scored our highest score of the season with a 196. That team goal of 180 seemed a long way away and it was even at Smock, a course we are very familiar with and where Kayla previously shot a 34...no excuses we simply dropped the ball(s), clubs, gloves, ball markers and our entire bags! Kayla shot (oh she told me not to tell you), Jas was low score with a 45, and the other 3 golfers were in the 50's!!! Yikes...We were fortunate enough to beat Franklin Central in this 3 way meet by 1 stroke...a narrow escape! On Saturday we will participate in our conference meet where we will meet up with Lapel again. On the bus ride home, Macy starts her ranting (something she does a lot and she is good at it) "We will show them who's boss, don't even think they are going to win this conference their first year in it, this is ours, we can and will play better on Saturday, ..etc..she said other things too, but they are just not printable!" This loss has and will teach us a great deal as we head into the state tournament series.

Last night found us back at our home course, Sarah Shank and these competitive young women bounced back with some serious emotion. Team score was 167...as the kids say, "that's beastie"!!! Kayla was medalist with a 40 but following on her heels came 2 sophomores Anna Looney with a 41 and Bree Cooper with a 43. Jasmine shot a 43 also and believe it or not we did not count Macy's 46. It wasn't too many years ago in this golf program, that I would have loved to see a 46 in the scorebook and that would have been our 1st place...wow how things have changed!

Anna Looney has not had the best sophomore season that she would have liked to have but she broke out last night posting 2 birdies and 2 pars. We all knew she could play and she plays very well in practice, she just struggles transferring that to a meet. Another sophomore Bree Cooper could hardly contain herself as she RAN off of the 9th hole and yelled, "I shot a 43, can you believe that!" Sophomore, Amy Hammer shot a 52. I guess the graduation of 3 seniors, doesn't leave the cabinet of BGHS golf completely empty.
